lamp shade (mri scans, nylon string, velcro)

The project began by gathering different forms of manufactured materials. The objective is to create something new, useful and beautiful out of the old. Manufractured -- if you will, coined by Mara Holt Skov Holt and Steven Skov Holt.
I started with CDs, tape, records, film, negatives.
I was intrigued by materials that contain data --- representing the parallel meaning of making something new from the old, and making new memories from old memories.

Threading of the cassette tape through film was an action that had a lot of meaning to me.
For the final product, I used MRI scans -- cut them into pieces, re-arranged them, sewed them together with nylon string to create the new pattern.

This project has many meaning: being stitched together, the moment of enlightenment from these tests, and fear of the unknown, the beginning of something new.
